Att kliva ut i arbetslivet för första gången kan kännas stort. För Fred blev starten som techtalang däremot en trygg resa fylld av gemenskap, lärande och nya möjligheter. Genom sitt första uppdrag som fullstackutvecklare på SBAB fick han utforska både backend och frontend och samtidigt lägga grunden för en karriär med en tydlig riktning framåt.
When Fred Gibson graduated in Information Systems from Umeå University, he faced the same challenge as many other recent graduates: what comes next? It was through a tip from a friend that he first heard about Nexer Tech Talent – a tip that would prove to be decisive for the start of his career.
– I went in with no expectations, but after the very first meeting I realized this was something different. It wasn’t just about what I could show on paper, but also about who I was as a person and what I dreamed of doing. From the very first meeting, I felt truly seen and that gave me a sense of security from the start that made all the difference, Fred recalls.
A first assignment that opened doors
Shortly after graduation, Fred received his first assignment – an opportunity that became the starting point of his career. Stepping into SBAB, he took on the role of fullstack developer, where the chance to work broadly and explore different areas of development opened up entirely new perspectives.
– It was the perfect start. I began working with backend, and later I got the chance to try frontend and that’s where I found my passion. Discovering which part of development truly suits me has been one of the greatest benefits of the program.
Growing through community
The transition from studies to working life is significant, and for many, the first steps can feel both exciting and nerve-wracking. For Fred, the community with other talents became a key factor in finding both confidence and courage in his new everyday life.
– Several of us started at the same time, and that created a real sense of security. We could share thoughts, ask questions, and encourage one another. A strong community quickly formed, making it far less daunting to be new.
Support that makes a difference
In addition to the sense of community, the support from Nexer Tech Talent and his consultant manager was a decisive part of Fred’s journey. Knowing that there was always someone to turn to provided a stable foundation whenever new challenges arose.
– I always knew I could reach out if something felt unclear or if I needed help. Answers were never far away. That security has meant so much to me, you truly feel that you’re not on your own.
A journey that shaped the future
For Fred, the months as a tech talent have been about much more than learning code and tools. It has been a journey where he not only developed his technical skills but also grew as a person and found his direction moving forward.
– I’ve become more confident, learned to handle stress better, and most importantly, discovered a passion for frontend development. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how much I’ve grown both in my role and as a person.
With stronger self-belief and a clear vision for the future, Fred is now looking ahead to the next chapter.
– I feel that I’ve had the best possible start to my career. This has truly laid the foundation for what I want to pursue going forward.
