Volvo Group Trucks Technology

In order to succeed in the transformation to fossil-free solutions and to manage an ongoing skills shift, Volvo Group Trucks Technology initiated a partnership with Nexer Tech Talent in 2019. Since then, six talent programmes have been launched and the company has received an injection of up to 150 new tech talents, who are now employed by the company.

MISSION

Volvo Group Trucks Technology (Volvo GTT) is the Volvo Group’s global technology development organisation. The organisation consists of approximately 7000 engineers working on research, engine development and product design related to the development of the Group’s trucks. The world is moving towards fossil-free propulsion systems and the Volvo Group aims to deliver only 100% fossil-free vehicles from 2040.

CHALLENGE

The Volvo Group and the entire automotive industry are in the midst of a major transformation to make the shift to fossil-free solutions a success. At the same time, another shift is underway at Volvo GTT, namely a change of skills as the number of retirements is high. The need for excellence in areas such as electromobility and software development at Volvo GTT was great, but the company was experiencing challenges in both recruiting and retaining young technical talent.

SOLUTION

In 2019, Volvo GTT started a partnership with Nexer Tech Talent in order to successfully manage the transformation and skills shift. Together, a training programme was tailored to secure both existing and future skills needs. Nexer Tech Talent has since attracted and onboarded tech talent to many different areas within the company.

– Through the partnership with Nexer Tech Talent, we at Volvo GTT have been supported in marketing ourselves to the target group as an attractive employer. At the same time, we have received help in onboarding, coaching and developing the tech talents during their first year. With the talent programme’s approach, in addition to new and valuable skills, we have achieved cooperation between the different departments within Volvo, while the talents themselves build valuable networks for the future, says Rolf Nilsson, Director – On-Board Connectivity Platform, Volvo Group Trucks Technology

RESULT

Since 2019, six talent programmes have been launched so far, and Volvo GTT has received an injection of up to 150 new team talents, who are now employed by the company. It has been a successful collaboration that has evolved annually with new skills and directions to support the ongoing transformation.

– Nexer Tech Talent has been very successful in helping us attract young engineers in the fierce competition for this attractive talent. It’s a partnership we see as a long-term commitment to the success of our important transformation in contributing to a sustainable future, says Rolf Nilsson, Director – On-Board Connectivity Platform, Volvo Group Trucks Technology
