DEKRA is one of the world’s leading testing and certification companies. The Industrial Inspections division performs technical inspections to enhance personal and operational safety. This includes inspecting everything from elevators and escalators to boilers for district heating plants.
DEKRA’s proprietary inspection system, Safehub, is their most important IT system, used for everything from booking and planning inspections to generating invoices and customer portal information, where clients can access details about all their inspection objects and statuses.
DEKRA had long used custom-made inspection systems since no off-the-shelf solutions fully supported their specialized operations, meeting strict regulatory and quality demands. As their business grew, operations and requirements became more and more complex, and in 2010, they needed to develop the next-generation inspection system. Having a modern and efficient IT system was also considered as a competitive advantage, as it improved both the customer experience and the working conditions for employees, making DEKRA more attractive in both markets.
However, DEKRA lacked the capacity and experience to independently carry out such a large and business-critical development project. They needed a development department in place that could meet the expectations in terms of competence, efficiency, and quality.
DEKRA partnered with Nexer, selecting their external development department service, MyTeam, as an outsourcing solution. Instead of building and managing an internal team, Nexer provided the necessary development capacity and expertise, allowing the team to scale based on DEKRA’s needs.
With Nexer’s experience in similar organizations and a proven project management model, DEKRA could plan, manage, and monitor development both operationally and strategically. This partnership ensured continuous improvement and market-driven innovation, with regular follow-ups and a collaborative dialogue.
With Nexer as their development partner, DEKRA gained access to the necessary development resources and expertise to launch their next-generation inspection system, Safehub. However, given the constantly evolving external environment, the work did not end with the initial rollout. DEKRA continued to rely on Nexer to maintain, support, and further develop Safehub, ensuring it meets ongoing regulatory and technological advancements.
Along the way, DEKRA and Nexer have developed a close collaboration at both operational and strategic levels. Their joint efforts are continuously reviewed, improved, and optimized. A natural division of responsibility has been established: DEKRA monitors and communicates updates and needs, while MyTeam tracks technological developments, ensuring Safehub maintains high technical quality and takes advantage of new technological opportunities when appropriate.
