ARBETSFÖRMEDLINGEN

SUPPORT IN WORKING WITH DIGITAL ACCESSIBILITY

The Swedish Public Employment Service wanted to take a holistic approach in making its digital services accessible to everyone, regardless of disability. Nexer’s experienced team supported with expertise, training, and competent consultants.

THE CHALLENGE

The art of turning legislation into culture

Arbetsförmedlingen is Sweden’s largest employment agency, matching up job seekers with employers and contributing to a well-functioning labour market in general. The agency wanted to make its website and mobile applications more accessible, but faced several challenges: first, the digital infrastructure was large and complex. Second, the accessibility work needed to be carried out in line with legislation. Third, co-workers had to be trained in best practices for digital accessibility.

THE DELIVERY

Accessibility is a team effort

It is important to incorporate digital accessibility into every part of your organisation – and it’s always easiest to get it right from the start.

In this case, Nexer simplified and optimised the process by:
  • Develop and deliver digital accessibility training for Arbetsförmedlingen’s employees.
  • Coach the employees in how to best work with digital accessibility.
  • Create a series of videos that illustrate step-by-step best practices for digital accessibility.
  • Participate in a helpdesk where Nexer and the authority’s experts answered questions about digital accessibility.
  • Ensure digital accessibility in design components of the design system.
Nexer also delivered:
  • An accessibility manual for creating digital content
  • A checklist to evaluate the accessibility of digital content
THE RESULT

GREAT PROGRESS IN A SHORT TIME

During the collaboration with Nexer, the Swedish Public Employment Service made great progress in its work towards digital accessibility. Today, the authority’s digital services are more accessible, and the daily work with documents, websites and films is better adapted to legislation and international accessibility standards. In addition, co-workers are better equipped to create accessible digital content on their own.

“We appreciated the co-operation. Nexer helped us to make our digital services more accessible. At the same time, we initiated a structure for our accessibility work and increased knowledge within the authority.”
– Annica Leifsdotter, Head of Communication Department, Swedish Public Employment Service.

DID YOU KNOW THAT…?

Sweden’s new accessibility law mandates that all websites, products, and services be accessible to people with disabilities by 28 June 2025.

The law is based on the EU Accessibility Directive and covers websites, mobile applications, and e-commerce sites.

Digital accessibility enhances the user experience for all, improves your organization’s SEO, and boosts user satisfaction.
