BACKGROUND

Tekniska verken, a leading renewable energy and sustainability company, is driving towards its vision of creating the world’s most resource-efficient region. By transforming waste into energy and advancing circular economy practices, the organisation manages operations spanning electricity, water, heating, cooling, waste management, broadband, and biogas.

To achieve this vision, Tekniska verken needed more than a data platform. It required a modern, scalable solution to unify fragmented data systems, strengthen data governance, and enhance reporting and analytics for smarter resource allocation and improved decision-making.

CHALLENGEs

Siloed systems made it difficult to access and share business insights across the organisation. Reporting delays—particularly in energy data management—affected efficiency and slowed decision-making. Tekniska verken set out to:

− Establish a single source of truth.

− Improve reporting to optimise resources and decisions.

− Build secure, scalable data governance.

− Lay the groundwork for future AI and machine learning adoption.

SOLUTIONs

In partnership with Nexer Insight, Tekniska verken co-designed and implemented a modern data platform using Azure Databricks, Lakehouse architecture, and Unity Catalog. This foundation consolidated data sources, simplified analytics, and provided flexibility to scale for future needs.

RESULTS

The transition is ongoing, but the platform is already enabling faster data insights, stronger governance, and long-term cost efficiency. It sets the stage for advanced analytics, automation, and AI-driven innovation—helping the organisation strengthen both sustainability and innovation.

This project is a major step toward making our operations more data-driven and efficient. By unifying our data and improving access to insights, we can optimise resource management, enhance sustainability efforts, and prepare for future AI-driven innovations. The new platform helps us today and sets the foundation for long-term growth and smarter decision-making.
