Get people to understand the EUBR

The EU Batteries Regulation (EUBR) impacts the entire battery value chain, from extraction to recycling, and has significant implications for companies like Volvo Group involved in battery production, use, and disposal. Non-compliance can lead to severe penalties. Since the EUBR will change Volvo Group’s operations, employees must understand it. How can we make such a complex topic accessible and easy to grasp?

The solution

A story-based course accompanied by a film

Nexer Maverick created an innovative learning experience called EU Batteries Regulation Awareness for All. This digital, game-inspired course features Ann Ode, a slightly drained battery, as your guide and coach. Users are tasked to interview Volvo Group’s EUBR experts, who tell the story about the EUBR – what, why, and how – thus helping Ann Ode recharge. Once Ann is fully charged, users unlock an animated film that narrates the journey of a battery pack—from its creation to its disposal. The course and the film are available through the Volvo Group’s learning management system, Navigator.

Key actions:
  • A fun guide: Ann Ode, a witty and somewhat energy-drained battery, guides the user and reinforces the learning through comments.
  • Interviews: The user interviews – i.e., asks questions – and gets answers through film clips with Volvo Group subject matter experts.
  • Animations: The EUBR information delivered through the interviews is enhanced through pedagogical animations. The user can always repeat a question to a subject matter expert.
  • Knowledge checks: Along the way, there are quizzes and drag-and-drop exercises.
  • A transformative element: The more the user learns, the more greenery becomes visible in the user interface.
  • It is an animated film that tells the story of a battery pack from cradle to grave. The film is packed with explanatory animations paired with an informative voice-over.

This unconventional approach to the topic was not anticipated by the users, which makes it more memorable.

The outcome

Now, the Volvo Group has EUBR awareness training that explains the EUBR in an easy-to-understand manner, always focusing on what the regulation means for the Volvo Group and its employees.
