Microsoft D365

Release Notes

What’s new in D365

Microsoft continues to introduce significant innovations across D365 Finance, Supply Chain Management, Security, and Copilot integrations, aiming to enhance operational efficiency, financial accuracy, and intelligent automation for businesses.

From enhancing robust security measures and optimizing financial precision to driving intelligent automation with Copilot and streamlining complex supply chain operations, we’ll explore how these advancements can directly translate into tangible business growth and sustained success for your enterprise.

Dynamics 365 finance

For finance teams, precision, efficiency, and adaptability are crucial. The latest release of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance introduces targeted enhancements designed to streamline operations, enhance accuracy, and provide greater control.

Ledger Settlements
Ledger Settlements are used to settle amounts on balance sheet accounts, granting control over the balances on the balance sheet. To further enhance the function of Ledger Settlements a few new features have been added. This includes year-end process to check if there are any partial settlements plus more information available for audits, such as a description and reason.

Fixed Asset

A few minor improvements have been made to fixed assets. A new centralized proposal page is now available where both acquisitions and depreciations can be created. This will give better control over the Fixed Asset processes.

Two new features in preview include the ability to split and transfer assets between legal entities and the ability to unify posting date when running catch-up depreciations.

Asset Leasing

The focus of the latest updates to the Asset Leasing module is to enhance existing functionality through the introduction of three key features:

  1. Workflow Integration for Lease Impairment: Workflow can now be incorporated into the lease impairment process, ensuring that all required steps are completed before the impairment is finalized.
  2. Mandatory Journal Descriptions: It is now possible to enforce mandatory descriptions for asset leasing journals, promoting consistency and clarity in documentation.
  3. Improved Integration with Fixed Asset Subledger: Lease terminations can now be automatically posted to the fixed asset subledger, streamlining the reconciliation process and improving data accuracy.

Subscription Billing

Several new features have been introduced to strengthen Subscription Billing, particularly in scenarios involving Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) after inventory closing or recalculation. Please note that this functionality is currently available as a preview feature and may be subject to change or withdrawal.

Additionally, there has been an enhancement to the handling of exchange rates on credit notes issued during the termination of billing schedules. The system now ensures consistent application of the original invoice exchange rate, improving financial accuracy and reporting.

Electronic Reporting

The Electronic Reporting framework has undergone a series of technical improvements aimed at enhancing performance, label management, and long- term handling of custom documents. These updates are primarily technical in nature. Should you require a more detailed explanation or assistance in understanding the implications of these changes, we are happy to provide support.

Copilot Agents

Microsoft Dynamics 365 by itself is an extensive platform. When integrated with Copilot Studio and the new Model Context Protocol (MCP), Copilot agents become even more powerful for your business.

Copilot agents integrated

You can now simply create your own agents that help with everyday tasks. It is easy to create an agent that can create transfer orders in Dynamics or give the user an inventory update. All the user has to do is a simple command such as asking “what is stock of item abc in warehouse 123” or “please create a transfer order from warehouse AA to BB of 1000pc of item abc”. This is done using the open standard MCP to integrate Copilot Studio agent with D365.

D365 Supply Chain management

New functionality in D365 Supply Chain Management leans into integrating intelligence, automation, and analytics into every business process. For operational users, new functions give you the tools you need to manage on-the-go.

Advanced Quality Management

Microsoft has placed a strong emphasis on enhancing quality management. This update introduces numerous new features aimed at meeting the current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements and the expectations of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Both cGMP and FDA require systematic, repeatable failure investigation and root cause analysis.

Electronic Signatures and Sampling Plans

There are new capabilities for electronic signatures and sampling plans. Users can now audit entire lots upon arrival or entire production batches, rather than inspecting each unit individually. This allows for differentiation in sampling size and the option to skip inspections, saving time with reliable suppliers.

Customer-specific Certificates of Analysis (COAs)

users can now create customer-specific certificates of analysis (COAs). For each supplier, users can add the testing criteria and print certificates that include the supplier’s name, test criteria, and results. Advance Quality Management in Dynamics 365 10.0.45 ensures robust, traceable, and compliant quality processes, giving control across operations and empowering confident decision-making.

Pair transfer order lines with sales order lines

A great way to secure materials and prevent them from being mistakenly used for another sales order is by using the new feature that pairs transfer orders with the sales order line. This feature allows you to view all sales orders related to a specific transfer order line, view all transfer orders generated for a specific sales order line, and receive a warning if you try to create multiple transfer orders for the same sales order line

Use External Item Number

A small but helpful new feature is the use of external item numbers on the sales order. This new feature, in preview, lets you define it for each customer, allowing you to use the customer’s terminology when adding product to orders.

Microsoft Security

In an increasingly interconnected world, the integrity and security of your business applications are non-negotiable. Microsoft Dynamics 365 is evolving to provide robust security capabilities that protect your data and ensure compliance. This section delves into the latest security enhancements, including improved user and license management, comprehensive security analysis tools, and streamlined privileged user management. These features are designed to empower your system administrators, optimize license utilization, and provide unparalleled control over access, ensuring your business operations remain secure and compliant.

Microsoft will update the user and license association during the autumn to improve Dynamics 365 license compliance. The user experience will change, including new warning messages, and in worst cases, users may be unable to log in if the association is not managed correctly.

Security Analysis

This feature set enables system administrators to efficiently identify users based on their roles, responsibilities, access privileges, and system entry points—saving time and helping to uncover potential security or policy issues.

License Usage Summary

The licensing usage summary helps you optimize Microsoft license utilization and identify licensing requirements. This new feature enables you to summarize licenses at different levels, including Role, Duty, and Privileges, as well as functional, to validate the association between users, licenses, and SKUs.

Privileged User Management

This tool streamlines the process of identifying access changes when business processes are updated, simplifying user access. Users typically have limited access to the system, and the system administrator can now temporarily grant access. The new way of working also includes an approval process, and the outcome is recorded for later audit and adjustments.
