SE Controls:

Driving Digital Transformation with Microsoft Dynamics 365

SE Controls are an international specialist in the design and delivery of intelligent smoke ventilation and environmental systems using façade engineering and automation.

Background

For over a decade, SE Controls has been on a journey to digitise its operations and commercial offerings. The company needed to adopt cloud technology to support the development of intelligent products capable of reporting their status, performance, and faults in real time.

Challenge

Upgrading IT systems was critical to enabling this innovation. Additionally, following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the Building Safety Act introduced new legislation and tighter enforcement, making compliance a priority for businesses managing building systems. SE Controls needed a solution that not only enhanced operational efficiency but also ensured seamless management of vast amounts of cloud-based data.

Solution

SE Controls selected Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations as its ERP system and Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement as its CRM solution, ensuring streamlined processes across finance, sales, and customer management.

Over time, the implementation scope expanded to include Power BI for reporting and SharePoint for content management, enabling better data-driven decision-making. The company appointed internal subject matter experts to represent departments, ensuring business continuity while improving strategic decision-making. As the project evolved, additional team members were onboarded for testing and early exposure to the system.

Due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire project was executed remotely, with tasks and project management efficiently handled via Azure DevOps.

Results

Despite the complexities, SE Controls achieved a successful go-live within 2.5 years, thanks to ambitious planning and strong internal collaboration.

The impact was immediate:
– Operational efficiency soared, with notable improvements in procurement, production, and warehouse management.
– The first post-go-live stocktake was described as the “slickest and quickest” in the company’s 40-year history.
– Order-to-dispatch time was cut in half, accelerating customer fulfillment.
– Sales pipeline visibility improved, allowing better segmentation and analysis.

The business gained a unified data system, enabling seamless collaboration across teams.

– SE Controls is now able to integrate third-party software into its Dynamics ecosystem, expanding capabilities for future innovation.
